Frederick Matthias Alexander(1869-1955) was born in Tasmania and made his living as Shakespearian recitalist until he started losing his voice. Determined to understand why this was happening and how to solve the problems that had finished his career, he embarked on an observation of his own habits and nearly decade-long experimentation, resulting in a discovery that has universal application. He taught for many years in England and the U.S.A and had many famous students like John Dewey, George Bernard Shaw and Aldous Huxley.
