The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a way of learning better posture and movement by unlearning old patterns that cause strain and tension and which may undermine our health and stop us realizing our full potential. It has been in continuous practice since the 1890s.
The Alexander Technique is effective for:
- neck, back, and shoulder pain
- repetitive strain injury
- headache
- musculo-skeletal problems, especially where caused
by tension, poor posture or movement patterns
- breathing and vocal problems
- anxiety and stress
The Alexander Technique is a tool for personal growth and development.
Musicians, actors and athletes use the Technique to improve performance. Business people use it to enhance presentation skills.
It is of equal value to people who wish to improve their skilled performance of everyday activities such as sitting at a desk, gardening or walking.
Many mothers have found it makes life easier during pregnancy.
It is not what you do, but how you do it that is important.
The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique is the lead professional body in the UK. All teachers have completed a three year, full time training course approved by the Society or one of the other professional bodies, hold professional indemnity insurance, and adhere to the Society's Code of Professional Conduct.
